It is not only Las Vegas and the 2015 World Series of Poker (WSOP) where there are prestigious live poker tournaments are being played, Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) in Nottingham – a little closer to home that Nevada – is running its revamped monthly deepstack event.
On Wednesday, the $1,500+$150 partypoker DTD Deepstack High Roller kicked off in the Midlands and attracted a field of 59 players who made 13 re-entries between them to surpass the $100,000 guarantee by $8,000.
Faring the best on Day 1 was Rick “The Claimer” Trigg who finished the night with 231,600 chips from his 50,000 starting stack. Trigg, who has more than $5.8 million in online tournament winnings, is one of the most respected grinders of his generation and now that he has ample chips at his disposal is going to take some stopping.
Trigg may hold an advantage going into Thursday’s final day, but him winning is far from a done deal because 36 other players are still in contention and there are some fantastic players among those survivors.
The reigning WPT National UK London champion Christopher Vernon is one such player. Vernon is hot on Triggs heels with 224,300 chips, while Michael Howard (210,800) and hyper-aggressive Lithuanian Eirimas Livonas (203,400) also finished with stacks in excess of 200,000.
Other notables in the field, of who there are many, include Matthew Davenport (129,100), Neil Strike (120,000), Alex Goulder (96,800), Simon Hemsworth (89,400), Alex Lindop (88,000),Stuart Fox (87,000), Mitch Johnson (65,400), the broken-fingered Daniel Charlton (61,700), WPT500 UK winner Eleanor Gudger (59,800), Michael Rosaman (58,200), Andrew Hulme (34,500), Tom Middleton (32,000), Nick Hicks (30,000) and John Eames (28,600).
