Sunday Briefing: Andrew Sweeney Banks $175,000 Win

Sunday Briefing

Ireland’s Andrew “UlDuffer” Sweeney has been knocking on the door of a large score for the past few weeks and this weekend he did just that, he banked a massive $175,024.74 after finishing as runner-up in the SCOOP edition of the Sunday Million.

Prior to this remarkable score, Sweeney’s largest online tournament win weighed in at $24,726, his reward for finishing in second place during a $215 NL Omaha Hi/Lo event at the 2011 World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP). It will be interesting to see how this huge cash effects Sweeney’s position in the Irish online poker rankings when they are updated on Wednesday.

Sweeney was joined at the final table by his fellow Irishman Sacha “ehdonthinkso” Le Breton who eventually finished in fourth place for a cool $84,047.40.

Another Irishman helping himself to a six-figure score was Noel “NoelHayes” Hayes who collected $142,535.00 thanks to finishing in fourth place in the $2,100 buy-in NL Hold’em SCOOP event. Talk about the luck of the Irish!

SCOOP-24-High was another $2,100 buy-in NL Hold’em event and it will be remembered fondly by the UK’s Stephen “woody1234321” Woodhead not least because he made his way to fourth place and collected a $159,355.00. This amazing result should push Woodhead into the UK online poker rankings’ top 10.

Other superb results include Chris “Moorman1” Moorman winning the Sunday 500 for $87,400 and the following:

  • BATESPOKER7 finished in fifth place in the Sunday Kickoff for $7,134.40
  • Nathan “nifty90” Dunlop who finished in sixth place in the Sunday Kickoff for $5,678.40

There were plenty of notable scores over at 888poker, as is usually the case on a Sunday for British and Irish grinders. “ADRI_ATM” walked away with $15,249.00 after finishing in third place in the $150,000 Mega Deep, with “f0rmEiTseGaL” and Andy “wiisssppppaa” Taylor finishing sixth and seventh in the $70,000 TURBO Mega Deep for $3,663.50 and $2,801.50, and “ImCastles” added $7,743.72 to his bankroll by finishing fourth in the $100,000 Sunday Challenge.

Over at partypoker, whose parent company is subject to a number of takeover bids, two of our biggest stars reached the final table of the two biggest Sunday Majors on the site.

Former European Poker Tour (EPT) Vilamoura champion, Toby “eightenclubs” Lewis managed a sixth place finish in the $100,000 Guaranteed High Roller and collected $6,298.76 while the legendary Chris “Therealmoorm” Moorman finished seventh in the $200,000 Guaranteed for a $6,200 score.
