The final starting flights of the inaugural partypoker Grand Prix Million take place this weekend and, barring a major miracle, Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) supremo Rob Yong looks set to have to stump up a huge sum of money in order to meet the $1 million guarantee.
Writing in his blog, Yong likened the current overlay situation to a football manager whose team needs to win 80-0 in order to avoid relegation, revealing that going into the final round of live and online Day 1s the club has so far processed 5,230 buy-ins meaning another 4,770 players need to pony up $120 to meet the ambitious guarantee.
“I have tried my absolute best but it wasn’t good enough,” writes Yong. “The DTD team delivered the logistics and marketing in style, but I think I made some mistakes with the format and length of run up, overall, when you look at the breakdown of players, partypoker delivered their job online without breaking a sweat, smashing all previous records for online Day 1's, but I just did not manage to get enough DTD Club Members behind this event and therefore into the Live Day 1's”
While this is bad news for Yong and his excellent DTD team, it is superb news for poker players because it is looking like around $300,000 could be added to the prize pool by the time late registration ends in the final online and live Day 1s.
Those wanting to get their share of the ridiculous value have 10 more opportunities to do so.
Kicking off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday 23 may at partypoker is an online starting flight with others scheduled for 1:00 p.m, 4:00 p.m, 7:00 p.m and 9:30 p.m while those who prefer the live element of poker can head to the DTD club in Nottingham at 10:00 a.m and 10:00 p.m for a live turbo and 5:00 p.m for a standard speed tournament.
Sunday sees the last two starting flights commence, one online and one live, both at 10:00 a.m.
To play in the online legs, which you can do while grinding in the live games, you can download partypoker via PokerNews and if you make your first deposit using the bonus code “UKPNEWS” you’ll receive a 100% up to £250 first deposit bonus.
Yong ended his blog by saying “There would be no such thing as success without failure and the DTD Brand is all about climbing mountains - and sometimes you run out of steam and don't get to the top, it happens but if you set a target and miss, you either got the target wrong, or the execution.” Let’s show our support and help give a push over those mountains and ensure that superb, affordable events like this are here to stay in the UK.
