Fraser Bellamy Leads After Day 1a of 2015 GUKPT Cardiff

Fraser Bellamy

The £100,000 guaranteed 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Cardiff Main Event commenced on Thursday afternoon in the heart of the Welsh capital.

Fifty-one players were in their seats when the dealers shuffled up and dealt, a figure that rose to 63 over the course of six levels of late registration. This means 137 entries are needed on Friday’s Day 1b otherwise the GUKPT is going to have to dig into its pockets and make up the shortfall in the unconditional guarantee.

Of those 63 entries only 25 managed to make it through the opening flight relatively unscathed and it is a familiar face who leads those surviving players, the face of Fraser Bellamy.

Bellamy doesn’t put in the volume that he once did but whenever he does turn out for an event you can bet that he’ll make an impact. In February 2015, Bellamy navigated his way through the 887-strong field of the Sky Poker UK Poker Championship Main Event to secure a £200,000 cash, the largest of his career.

The man from Sheffield finished Day 1a with a most-respectable 120,700 chips and was one of only two players to end the night with a six-figure stack, the other being Warren Jones (118,100) who finished 16th in this very event in 2014.

Joining Bellamy and Jones through to Saturday’s Day 2 are well-known players such as Hui Jin (62,300), online grinder duo Paul “senterpied” Senter (57,000) and James “jamerOK” Cawley (35,600), UKIPT London winner Rapinder Cheema (44,000), and Dinarte De Sousa (30,700) who’s taken time from his new love of weightlifting to butt heads with the Cardiff locals.
