Day 1b of the 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Cardiff Main Event needed 137 players to pile through the casino’s doors, a longshot at this time of year with everything that is going on. As you may have expected, there was a shortfall in numbers as 108 entries were taken while late registration was open, leaving the GUKPT to add £14,500 to the prize pool.
Forty-one of those 108 entries made it through to Saturday’s Day 2 and each will be hoping to get their hands on some of that aforementioned added value.
One man who looks set to do just that is Dan Clark who finished the final flight with 122,200 chips, enough to make him the overall chip leader going into Day 2. Clark won a Grosvenor 25/25 event in this very casino back in February and added £9,500 to his bankroll. Should he carry on in the same vein of form in this event, he’ll be adding more by the time the weekend is through.
Two other players finished Day 1b with six-figure stacks, those players being David Haycock (105,200) and David Lloyd (101,700). Lloyd is a GUKPT champion having won the Brighton leg during the 2013 season.
Other notable players in with a shot of glory in Wales include Dan Owston (94,100), Mark McCluskey (77,400), Sam MacDonald (65,000), John Eames (54,600), and Charlie Godwin (38,200).

Saturday’s Day 2 begins at 1:00 p.m. and there are nine levels scheduled. This could be long enough to reach the nine-handed final table, but if not they will get somewhere near.
Tune into the UK & Ireland PokerNews site on Sunday morning to see who the unfortunate bubble boy was and who is still in the hunt to become a GUKPT champion.
