Day 1b of the inaugural World Poker Tour (WPT) Amsterdam Main Event saw another 194 entries taken, taking the overall attendance to 324, quite an impressive total for a brand new tournament. This figure could rise as players can re-enter until Day 2 begins.
Topping the Day 1b chip counts, and now leading the tournament overall, is Italy’s Giacomo Fundaro and his 234,000 chips. Fundaro is already a member of the exclusive Champions Club having won the 2012 WPT Mazagan Main Event. Hailing from Erice, Fundaro is a regular on the European poker circuit and currently occupies 15th place on the Italian all-time money listings.
Dutchman Dennis Lavrijsen is another player who had a profitable day at the Holland Casino’s felt, finishing the night with 150,400 chips in his stack. However, it is third placed Sorel Mizzi’s story that is the most impressive because despite a lack of sleep due to winning a PokerStars Spring Championship Of Poker (SCOOP) tournament for $364,900, Mizzi still managed to finished Day 1b of this live event with 141,200 chips.
Other notables who progressed to Day 2 include David Boyaciyan (85,200), Pieter de Korver (81,000), David Yan (79,000), Sylvain Loosli (78,000), Steve O’Dwyer (72,900), Kent Lundmark (43,000), Dusk Till Dawn’s Simon Trumper (41,500), Luca Moschitta (21,100), Sofia Lovgren (15,000), Dominik Nitsche (13,600), and Seth Berger (11,200).
Among those less fortunate and therefore watching from the sidelines (or re-entering at the start of Day 2) include the likes of Michael Mizrachi, Paul Newey, Bryn Kenney, Yann Dion and Louis Salter.
