UK & Ireland Online Poker Rankings: Ireland Has a New No.1
Our friends at PocketFives.com have updated their online poker rankings and they make interesting reading, not least because there is a brand new name in the Irish standings, a new name that makes its debut at the very top of the pile.
Ireland-based Spaniard Sergio “EV4dGloryOMC” Garcia only created his account on April 28 and has already claimed the number one spot on the Irish leader board and 120th place in the worldwide rankings.
Garcia seems to be the latest in a long line of talented Spaniards to leave their native country to continue the online poker grind and it is certainly paying off for him. Garcia now has more than $444,000 in online winnings, an impressive total buoyed by his first PocketFives Triple Crown earned this week.
The first qualifying win came in the partypoker $20,000 Guaranteed Sunday Major for $3,900 and he followed that up on the Monday by winning a $215 NL Hold’em turbo at PokerStars for $7,396 and the Tyrannosaurus Rex at Full Tilt for $3,750.
Watch out for Garcia’s exploits in the coming weeks and months.
One man who should climb when the next update is complete is Cathal “shinerrr” Shine. The talented pro finished second in the Titanbet Poker €25,000 Grand Tuesday for $5,680 and then fourth in the PokerStars Big $162 for $6,526 but these two results came too late to be added to this week’s tally.
A doff of the cap goes to “Rowniwn” who won the PokerStars Hotter $7.50 for $6,529 and to Dara “Doke” O’Kearney who won the $22 NL Hold’em 1R1A for $4,466.
A player who will drop from the top 20 next week is Eoin “starfish” Starr who has decided to remove his aliases from his profile and will therefore no longer be ranked.

Jonathan “Gil3000” Enters the UK Top 20
Entering the top 20 in the United Kingdom’s rankings this week is Jonathan “Gil3000” Gill. A couple of weeks ago we mentioned to keep an eye on Gill’s progress because he seems determined to prove himself to be one of the best British poker talents – Patrick “pleno1” Leonard described him as one of the hardest working players in the game right now.
That hard work on and off the tables has paid off and Gill continues to put in some impressive results, results that see him claim 19th place in the UK rankings. Helping his climb was a win in the Betfair Poker €10,000 Gtd Pheonix ($2,944) and a bagful of deep runs across PokerStars, Full Tilt and the iPoker Network.
Gill recently breezed through the $500,000 winnings barrier, thanks in part to finishing fourth in the Sunday Million back in February and then coming second in the 888poker $100,000 Mega Deep. How high can Gill go? We think the sky is the limit.
We mentioned Leonard’s name earlier and we’re pleased to see his name back in the number one slot. Leonard won the 888poker $50,000 Sunday Crocodle for $21,060 and then finished third in the PokerStars $109 NL Hold’em Turbo 1R1A for $5,492.
Soaring up the ranks this week, something winning the Sunday Million for $194,479 will do to you, was Scott “Aggro Santos” Margereson. The Chesterfield lad now occupies fifth place in the UK and 38th worldwide, only nine place below his career high point.
Mentions have to go to Rhys “floppinhel” Jones who won Full Tilt’s Super Sized Sunday ($22,684) and the Billy “BillyChat” Chattaway who seems to be hitting final tables for fun having reached 10 of them in the past seven days.
