Head to the Grosvenor Casino inside Covetnry’s Ricoh Arena during the Easter weekend and you will be greeted by an army of poker loving students thank to the 2015 Grosvenor UK Student Poker Championships returning there for what will be an exciting week of action at the felt.
The £30+£5 buy-in Main Event is the tournament that all of the participating students want to win and if the 2015 edition continues in the trend of the past couple of years then those playing in it could be set for a big pay day.
In 2013, a record 469 players piled into the casino and created a £14,060 prize pool, the lion’s share of which — £3,540 – ended up in the back pocket of Ben Foxwell who defeated Lucas Durney heads-up to become the champion.
Twelve months later and the UKSPC Main Event broke its own attendance record when 544 entries and 35 rebuys were taken, creating a prize pool of £15,850. The final four players in that event, namely Alexander Marsdan, Matt Buckingham, Ryan Mantara and winner Michael Dorman, struck a deal that saw each of the foursome walk away with between £2,000 and £3,275 for their efforts.
