Day 1b of the 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Edinburgh Main Event saw a bumper crowd of players pass through the doors of the Grosvenor Maybury Casino and by the time the registration desk pulled its shutters down there were 163 entries added to the prize pool, pushing it £17,000 over the £100,000 guarantee.
Faring the best of the 62 players who made it through to Saturday’s Day 2 was Jonny Gray, a man who has a solid record in Edinburgh-based poker tournaments. In 2014, Gray finished as runner-up to Andrew Teng in the GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event for £22,000 before finishing fourth in the Genting Poker Series Edinburgh leg for an additional £8,750. Now that Gray has 137,000 chips at his disposal he should be confident of adding yet another Edinburgh cash to his Hendon Mob page.
Some of poker’s big guns turned out for some Day 1b action and a handful of them managed to punch their ticket for some Day 2 antics. Stewart Hay (112,400) and Richard Clyde (103,800) both ended the night with six-figure stacks while the likes of Gordon Huntly (90,200), Jeff Kimber (81,100), Vince Calenti (81,000), Neil Raine (61,000), James Mitchell (40,700), Joe Beevers (39,800), Paul McTaggart (30,700), and Robbie Bull (30,300) are still in contention.
