Sunday Briefing: Alan Gold Wins FTOPS Event 34 For $65K
Online poker tournament specialists were spoiled for choice this weekend thanks to the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) and PokerStars MicroMillions drawing to a conclusion and the first nine events of the 2015 partypoker Pokerfest taking place.
The biggest score of the weekend for one of our players went to Scotland’s Alan Gold who took down the FTOPS Event #34 for a cool $65,473.00. Gold outlasted a field of 1,405 in the $250 buy-in event to secure the second largest online score of his career.
Gold’s third-largest online cash came only last month when he finished second in the PokerStars Sunday 500 for $52,260 and he is now rapidly approaching $500,000 in online tournament winnings.
Another player enjoying the inflated prize pools of FTOPS was Gold’s fellow Scot, Daniel “dougiedan678” McAulay. Until Sunday, the 24-year old had won almost $22,700 at Full Tilt and had career-best score of $16,271. Thanks to finishing fifth in the FTOPS Main Event, McAulay can now boast of a $63,441.00 score! Amazing work!
Joining McAulay at the final table was Jareth “hteraaj2001” East, but his tournament ended with an eighth place finish, a finish worth $25,137.00.
As is always the case, there were some awesome results for our players over at PokerStars. We got all excited at the prospect of bragging about another British Sunday Million winner, but then discovered that “Legazdo” is none other than UK-based French pro Nicolas Cardyn. Hurray for British IP addresses!
There was a nice score for “tezmoney” in the Sunday 500, his second place finish added $50,440.00 to his coffers, while Rhys “floppinhel” Jones managed a runner-up finish in The Bigger $162 for $29,952 with “MAZACAR1E” and “??toneecho??” finishing third and fifth for $22,464 and $11,856.00 respectively.
Other notable PokerStars Sunday Majors scores include Chris “Moorman1” Moorman finishing fifth in the Sunday Kickoff ($7,266.70), “neuville25fr” coming fifth in the Sunday Rebuy ($14,684.25), and Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford finishing fourth in the Supersonic ($19,439.97).
Over at 888poker, Rick “WhosToClaim” Trigg took down The $10,000 Mega Deep for $40,236 with Paul “BobaFett411” McTaggart busting seventh in the $50,000 Turbo Mega Deep for $2,704.
There was another seventh place finish for one of our players because “SpitOnGraves” fell in seventh place in the $50,000 Crocodile for $2,803.95
Rounding out this week’s edition of the Sunday Briefing are the biggest scores had by UK & Irish grinders at partypoker’s Pokerfest.
The usual $100,000 Guaranteed High Roller saw it’s special $150,000 guarantee eclipsed by almost $16,000 and that was good news for the aforementioned Rhys “floppinhel” Jones and Ireland’s “EV4dGloryOMC” who finished in sixth and seventh place for scores of $8,879.28 and $7,219.60.
