Rachael Costa Chips Up On Day 1b Of UKIPT Series 7

Rachael Costa

Day 1b of the first UKIPT Series of Season 5 took place on Saturday afternoon at the Hippodrome Casino in London and although it attracted a slightly larger field than Day 1b – 81 started compared to 79 – the total attendance is bitterly disappointing if you compare it to previous editions of the series.

The inaugural UKIPT Series saw 343 players battle it out at the felts followed by fields of 478, 464, 313, and 353 so a field of only 160 for this must leave the management team scratching their heads and wondering what went wrong.

Attendance figures aside, Day 1b was an exciting affair and one that left only 21 players with chips to bag up. Rachael Costa bagged up the most chips of any other player and returns to the table on Sunday afternoon armed with 176,600 chips, enough to lead the 42 returnees.

Costa’s stack contains a solitary 100 denomination chip more than Jan-Joost Van Den Bogert of the Netherlands. Van Den Bogert put together a deep run in UKIPT Series 4 in April 2014, finishing 14th for £1,010 – his only recorded live tournament cash to date.

One man who has many more than one live tournament cash is the man who finished Day 1b with a stack of 85,900 chips, James Dempsey. Known as “Flushy” in poker circles, Dempsey has almost $2 million in live tournament cashes, an impressive sum aided by his World Series of Poker (WSOP) and World Poker Tour (WPT) victories.
