Are you an avid poker player who has their own blog or website and wish you could have a poker-relate web address for it? If so, you're in luck because on February 5 you can register for a brand new generic top-level domain dot POKER.
Global registry services provider Afilias is managing the registration and release process that begins on February 5 and continues until March 7, 2015. This first phase is known as the “sunrise” period and is only open to those who are eligible trademark holders, in this case it will be major poker companies such as partypoker, PokerStars, Full Tilt, 888poker and PKR Poker for example.
“Poker is one of the most popular games on the Internet today, and now there is a dedicated space of the Internet for all aspects of poker,” said the CMO of Afilias, Roland LaPlante. “.POKER is an easy-to-remember web extension that will resonate with poker fans, gaming entities, tournament organisers, product manufacturers, news sources and just about anyone involved in the game of poker.”
During the so-called sunrise period, a .POKER domain is limited strictly to trademark holders whose marks are registered in the Trademark Clearing house. When this 30-day grace period ends. Members of the public can apply for the names they want, with names that receive more than one registration being put to auction.
Finally, on April 21, 2015, the .POKER domain becomes available for anyone to register.
