UK & Ireland Sunday Briefing: Massive Christmas Scores All Round!
This weeks Sunday Majors were the last to be held before Christmas and it appears that the British online grinders wanted to ensure they have a Christmas to remember judging by the amazing results that they helped themselves to on December 21.
As is usually the case, it was at PokerStars where the biggest scores were had, a fact aided by it being Double Vision Sunday, a special promotion where some of the most popular Sunday Majors were run twice side by side, with the second edition played in a six-max format.
One such tournament was the Sunday Million. The first Sunday Million saw 7,420 players take to the felt and the last standing British player was the seasoned grinder “gregior” who finished in eighth place for a $15,863.96 score.
The second Sunday Million of the evening actually overlayed by almost $40,000, but that didn't bother Tom “hitthehole” Middleton who busted in fifth place for $35,460 or “BWFCLEE,” who we believe is Lee Taylor, who chopped four ways before falling in second place for a cool $84,342.60. Awesome work, guys.
Another player benefiting greatly from the Double Vision promotion was Bedfordshire's “H0LDiT.” Usually found in low-to-mid stakes tournaments at PokerStars, H0LDiT jumped into the $215 buy-in Sunday Warm-UP II and it turned out to be a fantastic decision as he went on to finish second for a career-best score of $75,973.15.
Other big scores at PokerStars this Sunday include:
- “bje__89” won $8,928.00 for finishing fifth in the Sunday Kickoff
- Tamer “Tamthemanwho” Kamel won $21,117.16 for finishing second in the Sunday Kickoff II
- “zepher06” won $11,779.51 for finishing seventh in the Sunday Warm-Up II
- Patrick "pads1161" Leonard won $25,069.86 for winning the Sunday 6-Max
- “TheGiv88” won $4,266.00 for finishing sixth in the Sunday 6-Max
At PokerStars' sister site, Full Tilt, “podnil” bagged a $21,308.00 score after chopping The Sunday Brawl heads-up and finishing second, while Scott “rdcrsm” Margerseon, better-known as “Aggro Santos,” chopped the Big Ben before going onto win and claim $11,018.34.
Shout outs also go to “the angleman” and Stephen “stevie444” Chidwick who finished fifth and eighth in the Super Sized Sunday for scores of $8,010.00 and $3,204.00.
We almost had a win to brag about in the $200K Guaranteed Sunday at partypoker, but Rhys “floppinhel” Jones fell late on and finished fourth. It was a finish worth $12,650 so all was not lost.
There were more big cash hauls for our players grinding at 888poker. Andy “chickenmelt” Young collected $20,937.74 after finishing as runner-up in the $100,000 Mega Deep, while the $50,000 Turbo Mega Deep was awash with Union Jacks.
“penantry” won the whole shebang for $19,062.00 with Ben “TopBeaver69” Spraggons (fifth for $3,706.50), “CrackedI29” (seventh for $2,294.50) and “purpleturtle” (eighth for $1,553.20) joining the champion at the final table.
Last and most definitely not least was the outright victory of Mark “icallyamet” Wright in the $100,000 Sunday Challenge. Wright collected $24,062.64 for his win.
The next week or so is traditionally slow in the online poker world for obvious reasons, but we have a sneaky feeling that some of the British and Irish contingent will be putting in some big pre-Christmas sessions before Santa pays them a visit. Of course, we'll have one ear to the ground at all times to listen out for the big wins and near misses so stay tuned to UK & Ireland PokerNews for all the latest results had by our players.
