We continue our recap of the most popular stories on the UK & Ireland PokerNews site from 2014 by heading to March.
March kicked off in superb style with a trio of live tournament wins for us to write about. The first of those victories went to Laurence Houghton and the second to the colourful Irishman Kevin Killeen.
Houghton booked his win in the partypoker WPT National London Main Event and added £27,500 to the coffers while Killeen collected €87,7000 by taking down the UKIPT Dublin Main Event, beating Max Silver heads-up for the title.
The third early march win also happened to be the biggest thanks to the online legend that is Chris Moorman taking down the World Poker Tour (WPT) L.A. Poker Classic for a monster-sized score of $1,015,460. Amazingly, this was only the second time Moorman finished first in a live tournament, surely there will be many more wins in the coming years, though.
As March progressed, Rhys "floppinhel" Jones won the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Manchester Main Event, resigning Simon Deadman to yet another runner-up finish, while Sam Trickett, fresh from becoming the ambassador for Everest Poker, finished second in the WPT Venice Main Event, losing out to aggressive Italian Andrea Dato.
Some of the most-read articles in March included the news of Jon Spinks becoming a father and Moorman proposing to his long-term girlfriend, Mohammed Istakhar Sadiq winning a six-max event at Dusk Till Dawn and Jack McDermott winning the Sunday Warm-Up at PokerStars for $98,000.
Other page turners includesJames Parker securing the title of Genting Poker Series Sheffield champion, Conor "1_conor_b_1" Beresford having an amazing Sunday at the virtual felt and the news of Joe Beevers and the Boatman brothers launching the Pokermob.com portal and becoming sponsored pros of Grosvenor Poker.
Sadly, it wasn't all great news for the UK & Ireland Poker scene after the horrible news of the murder of Mehmet Hassan during what appears to be a burglary attempt. More news on the developments of that case in our recap of April's action.
