Team PokerStars Online Vicente Delgado Closes Gap on Patrick Leonard

Vincent "vincenfish" Delgado

The race to be number one at Christmas isn't something that only the music industry does on an annual basis, online poker players strive to be in the top spot once St. Nick comes along and distributes his gifts.

In the UK online poker rankings, Patrick Leonard has been uncatchable at the top, but that could be all set to change because Team PokerStars Online's Vincent “vincenfish” Delgado is within touching distance as the man affectionately known as “pleno1.”

Delgado closed the gap between Leonard and himself to 116 points this week thanks to a third place finish in The Big $75 Carnival edition ($6,251), and wins in the $109 NL Hold'em Turbo Re-Entry ($7,837) and in the $215 NL Hold'em Turbo ($9,039). Should Delgado keep up this impressive form throughout the following week he could become the UK's newest number one.

Also on the rise this week is Chris “moorman1” Moorman who now occupies fifth place in the UK leader board. Judging by the scores of cashes over the past seven days, Moorman is logging a lot of volume once again and when someone of his calibre puts in the hours the results usually follow.

Knocking on the door of the top 10 is Andy “andyh26” Holman. Now ranked 12 in the UK and a career-best 142nd in the world, Holman has enjoyed tons of success over the past week with results at PokerStars including:

  • Third in the $215 NL Hold'em Turbo for $3,596
  • Second in the $215 NL Hold'em Turbo Re-Entry for $3,120
  • Second in the $215 Weekly 6-Max for $9,761
  • First in the $109 NL Hold'em Turbo for $3,312
  • Fourth in the $215 NL Hold'em Turbo for $3,185
  • Second in the $13.75 NL Hold'em Knockout for $1,189

Lastly from the UK round-up, a nod of the head towards “carpediem200” who has tonight and Thursday to win a non-partypoker or PokerStars tournament that has a $10,000 or more prize pool if he wants to win his first Triple Crown.

Carpediem200 won the $15,000 Gtd Major at partypoker for $3,360 on November 20 and followed that up the next day by winning the $109 NL Hold'em rebuy at PokerStars for $7,525. He now has until November 27 to win a qualifying tournament on a different site and a Triple Crown will be his.

John “gruaiggorm” Daly Reigns in Ireland

It is John “gruaiggorm” Daly who is the man to catch in the Irish rankings, after he overtook the European Poker Tour London Main Event finalist Kevin “SuitedAcesBaby” Killeen. However, with only 42 points separating the talnted duo, it could be a case of one leapfrogging the other as 2014 comes to a close.

What makes Daly's number one rank so impressive is the fact he plays low-to-mid stakes tournaments, with the occasional $109 thrown in. It goes to show that you don't have to be playing for high stakes to rack up impressive scores and accumulate leader board points.

In sixth place this week is “Rowniwn” who has been racking up results. Sandwiched between wins in the $215 NL Hold'em Turbo Re-Entry ($5,115) and $88 NL Hold'em 4-Max Turbo ($691) were third place finishes in the $109 NL Hold'em 6-Max ($2,880) and the $215 NL Hold'em Turbo ($4,113), all of which helped bolster Rowniwn's score this week.

Also banking a brace of outright wins was Dan “NukeTheFish!” Wilson who won the superbly named Mama Said Knock You Out at Full Tilt for $1,097 and the Hot €20 at for $1,232.

Both the UK and Ireland's leader boards are tightly packed and if anyone in the top 30 places binks a Sunday Major or similar they should fly up the standings and into the limelight. Exciting times are ahead for sure.
