The Dusk Till Dawn was full to bursting on Saturday 15 November as the 2014 partypoker WPT500 UK marched towards its conclusion. First, Day 1g, played to a turbo format, attracted 228 players and a short while after it ended Day 2 began.
Day 2 kicked off at 4:30 p.m. on November 15 with 580 players in the hunt for the £140,000 first place prize. By the time the curtain came down on proceedings, all but 61 had busted from the £1 million guaranteed event, some of the UK's brightest stars among the bustees.
Andrew Hulme, Stuart Fox, Rupinder Bedi, Christopher Brammer, boxing's Carl Froch, Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody, Tom Middleton, Leon Campbell, Chris Sly, Leo McClean, Scott “Aggro Santos” Margereson,
James Dempsey, Nick Hicks, Ludovic Geilich, Alex Goulder, Kevin Allen, Scott O'Reilly and Simon Higgins all crashed out before the money bubble burst (Higgins finished 202nd with 200 paid), with Adriano Luzzi being the unfortunate bubble boy.
The floodgates opened when the bubble burst as the shorter stacks adopted the “good big or go home” attitude.
Derek Murray was the first player to collect some prize money and he was joined on the rail, via the cashier's desk, by the likes of Duncan Wilkie, James Browning, Iaron Lightbourne, Danny Blair, Jon Spinks, Gareth Walker, Maria Demetriou, Chuck Clark, Yucel “Mad Turk” Eminoglu, Steve Watts, Ben Martin, Mitch Johnson, and Simon Deadman.
Topping the chip counts at the end of Day 2 was the Day 1e leader Dahe Liu whose 2,470,000 stack is slightly larger than that of David Peters (2,445,000) in second place. Peters is a tremendous poker tournament player (He's won more than $8.6 million from live and online tournaments) and is one of the favourites to walk away with the title of champion by the time this tournament concludes on November 16.
Other notables still challenging for the trophy include Martin Bader (2,010,000), Chun Law (1,745,000), Dhru Patel (1,740,000), Willie Tann (1,545,000), Billy Chattaway (1,275,000), Tom High (1,090,000), Team PKR Pro Eleanor Gudger (925,000), Gordon Huntly (600,000), Marc Inizan (540,000), David Nicholson (530,000), Unibet Open London winner Pratik Ghatge (330,000) and Charles Chattha (270,000)
