GUKPT Gearing Up For Its Annual Blackpool Festival

GUKPT Gearing Up For Its Annual Blackpool Festival 0001

One of the most popular stops on the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) calendar is only a week away, one that has been a mainstay on the GUKPT since its creation in 2007. Every year, the penultimate leg of the GUKPT takes place in the seaside town of Blackpool and 2014 is no different because on November 9, the 2014 GUKPT Blackpool festival kicks off, with the Main Event scheduled to run from November 13-16.

Although the GUKPT Blackpool Main Event doesn’t attract as many players as it once did, it is still one of the most eagerly anticipated stops on the long-running tour and still creates prize pools approaching quarter of a million pounds.

In Season 1, Paul Bracken outlasted a field of 353 to claim the £109,700 first place prize, the largest prize ever awarded in a Blackpool GUKPT. Other past winners are Brian Clarke, Priyan de Mel, David Johnson, Andrew Peters and most recently Simon Deadman and online legend Rick Trigg.

It is difficult to predict the attendance figures for this year’s GUKPT Blackpool Main Event because it clashes with the £1 million guaranteed WPT500 UK event taking place at Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn (DTD). While the DTD event is sure to attract punters in droves, it does have several Day 1s available and that gives players the chance to play in both the WPT500 and GUKPT Blackpool.

Regardless, whoever heads to the Grosvenor G Casino at The Sandcastle is sure to have a super experience at one of the most fun-packed stops on the GUKPT circuit.

Satellite tournaments aside, the first 2014 GUKPT Blackpool event takes place on Monday 10 November and is a £110 buy-in NL Hold’em re-entry event. The following night there is a chunkier £330 buy-in version with the £200,000 guaranteed £1,080 buy-in Main Event’s first starting flight running on Thursday.

Other highlights include a £150 bounty tournament and a £165 Pot Limit Omaha event.
