£100K Guaranteed MADchester Poker Open Scheduled in November
Poker players are going to be spoiled for choice during November after Paddy Power announced it is set to run a £100,000 guaranteed tournament at the Manchester235 casino. It will be the first time that The Irish Open sponsors run a tournament in the United Kingdom and they are pulling out all of the stops to ensure that it is a memorable occasion.
Running from November 21 through to November 23 is the inaugural MADchester Poker Open, a £100,000 guaranteed No Limit Hold’em event that costs £500+£50 to enter. In addition to the large prize pool, “Paddy power-style Irish ‘craic’” is promised to anyone playing in the three-day event.
The Head of Paddy Power Poker, Patrick Thornton, revealed that Paddy Power’s strong following in North West England was one of the reasons for selecting the Caesars Entertainment owned Manchester235 as the venue for the MADchester Poker Open.
“We looked at a lot of venues in and around the region and Manchester235 stood out head and shoulders above its competitors as the ideal host for the Madchester Open. Paddy Power has a strong customer base in the North West and we felt the time was right to have an offline event in England. With a £500 buy-in, who’s mad enough to call our bluff?”
Austin Graham, Macnhester235’s Venue Director, is delighted at the prospect of hosting a poker tournament with such a large guaranteed prize pool.
“Paddy Power’s Irish Open is one of Europe’s biggest poker events and the fact that they’ve chosen Manchester235 to host their first English event is true recognition of the casino’s standing and profile in the North West. With a prize guarantee of £100,000, we’re expecting a real buzz about this tournament and anticipating a lot of the game’s big guns will turn up for the Main Event.”
As you would expect from a Paddy Power sponsored event, there are scores of satellites feeding into it. Buy-ins for the MADchester Poker Open satellites range from £25 rebuys up to £75 freezeouts and run up to and including November 20.
The timing of the event came as a surprise to us, not least because it clashes with the World Poker Tour UK Main Event being held at Dusk Till Dawn. While the partypoker WPT500 UK, a £500+£50 buy-in event with a £1 million guarantee, will be done and dusted by the time the Paddy Power event takes place, the £1 million guaranteed WPT UK Main Event is on the same dates and that is sure to throw a spanner into the works for the Paddy Power team. We believe that paddy Power hope it is a different customer base would be playing in its £550 event to what would be competing in the £3,000 WPT UK Main Event.
