Oliver Price Up to Fourth in the UK GPI; Sam Trickett Returns to Top 10
London’s Oliver Price has climbed up to fourth in the United Kingdom’s Global Poker Index (GPI), to 65th in the worldwide standings and now occupies 14th spot in the Player of the Year leader board after the last update of the extensive GPI database.
Price can seemingly do no wrong at the moment, a fact that has been true since he chopped the PokerStars Sunday Million in April 2013. Since helping himself to more than $180,000 in that online tournament, Price has been a regular on the European Poker Tour (WPT) and the various major events taking place in the UK and across Europe.
After cashing twice during the EPT Barcelona festivities, Price jetted off to Cyprus for the partypoker WPT Merit Classic North Cyprus festival and cashed three times. A 16th place in a €1,100 buy-in side event was sandwiched between an 11th place finish in the Main Event and a third place finish in the €10,500 High Roller – results that banked Price in excess of €140,000.
The Everest Poker Ambassador and all-round poker legend Sam Trickett is back where he belongs, in the top 10 of the UK standings. Trickett’s fifth place finish in the WPT Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller was followed up by a cash in the WPT Cyprus Main Event and those two results were enough to push Trickett into 10th place in the UK.
Trickett has been ranked as highly as fifth in the world for live tournament play, but has some way to go before he returns to those dizzy heights because his current global rank is 160th. With the UKIPT / EPT London festival set to take place in the next few weeks and those being followed by the £1,000,000 guaranteed WPT500 UK and a £3,300 buy-in WPT UK Main Event, Trickett has plenty of opportunity to climb the rankings like the boss that he is.
Also on the rise this week was Steve Watts, who finished sixth in the Genting Poker Series DTD Main Event for his first major live cash since the World Series of Poker, and it helped to send the former professional footballer into 15th place in the UK.
