Ireland’s Daragh Davey Continues to Climb the Online Rankings

Daragh Davey

You would be forgiven for thinking that in order to rank highly in the online poker rankings you would have to be helping yourself to massive scores week in week out. This isn’t the case.

Obviously, banking high five-figure sums doesn’t do your ranking any harm, but sometimes if you are reaching the money places consistently, you’re going to soar up the leaderboards. Ask Darah Davey if you don’t believe me.

There was a time that Dublin-based Davey didn’t show up in the Irish top 20, now he is ranked fifth in the Emerald Isle and a career-high of 371st in the world. Over the past few months, Davey has been one of the most consistent players, not only in Ireland but in the world.

In the past week, Davey has won the 888poker Tornado ($2,691 in prize money), finished third in The Big $55 at PokerStars ($10,321), third in the Full Tilt Poker Turbo Fiddy ($609), fourth in the 888poker Tornado ($1,173) and can brag about no less than 15 more cashes in mid-stakes online poker tournaments.

He hit more than a dozen final tables in August – including a handful of outright wins – and the same was true for July and the month before that.

Mark our words, a massive score is on the horizon for Davey and when it does come you could see Davey mixing it up with the very best in the world.

Cathal “shinerrr” Shine is another player in form at the moment and currently finds himself fourth in Ireland and 263rd in the world. Shine won the Turbo Hundo at Full Tilt Poker in late August ($3,200) and has added impressive results to his list of accomplishments such as a third place in the $55 NL Hold’em 6-max Turbo at PokerStars ($2,571), an 11th place in the Sunday High Roller ($1,350) and a couple of nights ago Shine came third in the Hot $75 at PokerStars for $8,963.

Saffari Returns to the UK Top 20 During Big Reshuffle

Sebastian Saffari

The UK online poker rankings are usually quite stable, with most of the top 20 staying around their previous week’s standing. Usually. This week saw a major reshuffle of the pack, and although all but one of the players in the top 20 were present in the previous update, their order has juggled around significantly.

Sebastian “BassySaffari” Saffari, who was ranked as highly as ninth in the world during 2013, returns to the top 20 this week after rediscovering the form that saw him hold such a lofty position last year. In the past seven days, Saffari has added the following cashes to his long list of poker results on his profile.

  • Second place in the PokerStars $109 NL Hold’em Turbo for $6,113
  • Third place in the $51 NL Hold’em Hyper at PokerStars for $4,598
  • Second place in the $215 NL Hold’em Turbo at PokerStars for $19,359
  • Thirty-fourth place in the $215 NL Hold’em rebuy WCOOP at PokerStars for $3,832
  • Fourth place in the $215 NL Hold’em Turbo at PokerStars for $6,755
  • Eleventh place in the $215 NL Draw WCOOP at PokerStars for $1,169

If Saffari keeps this run of form going, he’ll be back in the top 10 in no time at all.

Rhys “floppinhel” Jones has the chance to win his fourth Triple Crown – and his first since October 2012 – because he won both the $25 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper at PokerStars ($3,373) and The Hot €100 at ($3,776) on Saturday. Jones now has a few days left to win a third tournament on a different site.
