The 2014 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Goliath continued to flex its ample muscles on Tuesday when another 340 entries were taken in the £250,000 guaranteed Main Event, taking the total attendance over the first three starting flights to an impressive 1,133.
Tuesday was Day 1c, the third of six start days, and the standard 16 levels were completed. By the time the 16th level was written into the history books, Dan Dennehy was the man whose name was at the top of the chip counts having turned his starting stack into an impressive 469,500.
Dennehy is a local player who has a trio of cashes in Coventry and nearby Nottingham. The largest of those cashes weighs in at £410, Dennehy’s reward for finishing fourth in a £25 buy-in tournament at Dusk Till Dawn in April 2014.
Sat in second place on the Day 1c leader board is Yiannis Liperis who ended the night with 323,500 chips crammed into the overnight chip bag. Liperis is a regular on the UK poker circuit and has so far racked up almost $100,000 in live tournament cashes, including one for £13,480 that he won when he took down a £200 side event at the 2013 Genting Poker Series (GPS) Sheffield festival.
Other big stacks among the 50 surviving players punching their tickets to Day 2 include Mark Thomas (311,000), Arjun Ruparel (303,500), Kamal Khalifa (300,500) and Matt Hayes (298,000).
