The 2014 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Goliath Main Event looks set to obliterate its £250,000 guarantee after more than 1,000 players bought in during Day 1d and Day 1e combined! With one more start day to go, the current attendance stands at an impressive 2,248 meaning only 252 players have to buy in on Day 1f for the guarantee to be hit.
Day 1d saw 388 players take to the felt at the G Casino inside the Ricoh Arena and there were all outlasted and out-chipped by Simone Powell who somehow ended the night with 550,000 chips, which the eagle-eyed among you will realise puts her at the top of all of the chip counts, not only the Day 1d counts.
Powell finished 265th in the 2013 GUKPT Goliath and banked £220 for her efforts. We wouldn’t bet against Powell from at least repeating last year’s heroics this time around.
Finishing Day 1d second in chips was Timothy “Tim Tim” Timotheuo, a regular on the UK poker circuit and one with almost $200,000 in live tournament winnings. Tim Tim bagged up 489,000 chips at the close of play and is one to watch for as this tournament progresses that is for sure.
Other big Day 1d stacks include Alfie Adam (394,500), Mark Harding (355,500), Greg Hawes (342,500), Gavin Mills (316,000) and Yang Liu (313,500).

Peter Smith Tops 2014 GUKPT Goliath Day 1e Chip Counts
The organisers of the GUKPT Goliath expected a busy day on Day 1e, but nothing could have prepared them for what lay in store. Early estimates put the anticipated attendance at 500, which would have been impressive enough, but then an additional 227 players bought in to take the total number of buy-ins on Day 1e to 727!
Peter Smith fared the best of the 12 surviving players, bagging and tagging 447,700 chips as the day ended. Smith seems to be a regular in low buy-in tournaments around the Midlands and has so far accumulate winnings of almost $18,000. If he keeps up his Day 1e form he will be adding to that total before the weekend is out.
Satnam Sandhu finished with 418,500 chips while a player calling himself nothing but “Mr G” ended with 413,000 chips in his stack.
Other big stacks include Carl Boreham (412,500), Shaun Watson (406,500), Thomas Myland (391,000) and Jamie Phillips (391,000).
