Kirsty Thompson Becomes PokerStars’ Head of Pro & Celebrity Marketing

Kirsty Thompson collecting her British Poker Award

On Tuesday, PokerStars revealed it had appointed Kirsty Thompson to the role of PokerStars’ Head of Pro & Celebrity Marketing, taking over from former PokerNews Editor-in-Chief John Caldwell.

Thompson joined PokerStars in 2009 and has held a number of prominent positions within the company, most recently serving as the President of the UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) and Live Rooms.

Over the years Thompson has gained a reputation for being one of the most valued and innovative people in the poker industry and is credited with the creation of the ever-popular UKIPT, a tour that has gone from strength-to-strength and is regarded as one of the must-play tours in Europe.

In 2012, Thompson’s dedication to poker was publically celebrated when the British Poker Awards crowned her the winner of the Biggest Contributor to Poker. The following year, Thompson won the Best Team Award at the Women in Gaming awards.

“Kirsty is well known in the poker community as a passionate, smart and dedicated manager,” said Vadim Soloveychik, PokerStars’ Director of Marketing. “Her experience in managing some of the world’s biggest and best live poker series, and her relationship with many of the world’s top players, will serve PokerStars, Team Pro and the industry very well in the years ahead.”

As part of her new role, Thompson will manage all aspects of PokerStars’ relationships with the brand’s celebrity ambassadors and PokerStars Team Pro members.

Many upstanding members of the poker community responded to Thompson’s tweet including the World Poker Tour’s Hermance Blum, bwin.party Group Director of Poker Jeffrey Haas, PokerStars Team Pro Bertrand Grospellier, Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Dermot Blain and the aforementioned John Caldwell.

Everyone at UK & Ireland PokerNews wishes Kirsty the best of luck in her new role, not that a woman with her talents needs luck!
