Friday was another scorching day in the United Kingdom, but while the vast majority of people not working were basking in the glorious sunshine, 200 men and women were making their way to Newcastle for the Genting Poker Series Main Event taking place there.
Among those 200 entrants was Fraser Bellamy who had a superb day at the felt, eventually bagging up 209,200 chips and being the only player to stack up over 200,000 chips.
Seventeen players finished Day 1c, the final starting date, with six-figure stacks and have given themselves the best possible chance of returning to their homes with a cash prize to show for their efforts.
Lynne Beaumont, fresh from her sixth place finish in the 2014 World Series of Poker Monster Stack – a result that netted her $273,090 – has 169,600 chips going into Day 2, while Brett Angell’s day went better than his first attempt on Thursday with him ending with a most respectable 158,600.
Other notables with 100,000 plus include Dusk Till Dawn supremo Rob Yong (142,800), and online grinder Jamie O’Connor (126,000).
Also punching their Day 2 tickets were Leon Campbell (89,700), Dusk Till Dawn’s Simon Trumper (80,100), Irish Tom Brady (72,800), Lynne Beaumont’s other half James Browning (57,400), the legendary Willie Tann (31,400), Babbis Lappas (31,400), Full Tilt Poker ambassador Ben Jenkins (31,000) and Ben Vinson (29,600).
