Seventy-one players are all that remain in the 2014 UKIPT Marbella Main Event as the tournament reaches its penultimate day’s play. Topping the chip counts at the end of another eight 60-minute levels is Poland’s Marcin Barwinski who is hoping to turn his satellite win into a more substantial €136,000.
At the start of play all of the talk was about reaching the money places and the returning players did everything in their power to avoid finishing in 112th place and bursting the bubble. The nature of the beats dictates that someone has to pop the bubble and that someone was Paul “xCelticFCx” Febers.
Hand-for-hand lasted for almost an hour and ended when Febers four-bet shoved for 40 big blinds from the small blind with pocket nines and Gonzaga Oliveira instantly called with his superior pocket kings. No help arrived for Febers on the board and he was sent to the rail empty handed while the surviving players locked up at least €1,800 for their efforts.
Some of those who are guaranteed some money for their efforts, having safely navigated their way through to Day 3 include Team PokerStars Online Vicent Delgado (585,000), start-of-the-day chip leader Ken Lennard (546,000), Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody (354,000), Paul Kristoffersson (283,000), Neil Raine (275,000), Sam Grafton (262,000), Mohammed Razavi (213,000), Paul McTaggart (206,000), and Gaelle Garcia Diaz (45,000).
When play resumes at 12:00 p.m. local time, the 71 players will sit down knowing they have secured at least €2,270 and that if they survive the day’s action that amount increases to €10,300.
Can Barwinski hold onto the chip lead or will one or more of the chasing pack overtake him? Tune into UK & Ireland PokerNews over the weekend to find out.
