Ludovic Geilich Looking to Defend his UKIPT Marbella Title

Ludovic Geilich: Reigning UKIPT Marbella champion

With the 2014 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in full swing, it is easy to forget that there are other major live poker festivals taking place around the world, including the PokerStars sponsored UKIPT Marbella festival.

When PokerStars took the UKIPT outside of the UK and Ireland in 2013 for the first time in its history, they packed everything up and headed for the Spanish sun in Marbella. It was a gamble, but one that paid off as 763 players piled into the Casino Marbella for the €1,100 buy-in Main Event.

Among the 88 in-the-money finishers were players such as Gavin O’Rourke, Ben Jenkins, Michael Graydon, James Mitchell, Dara O’Kearney, and Richard Milne. The best result, the champion, was a certain Ludovic Geilich who returned to bonny Scotland with €130,000 and the trophy.

Since that victory, Geilich has been everywhere. Getting under the skin of opponents from far and wide, using his loose-aggressive style to bamboozle players around the world.

A fourth place finish in the European Poker Tour London Main Event bagged the popular Scot £193,340 while his win in a €2,200 side event at EPT Vienna added €46,360 to his coffers. And let’s not forget that Geilich also took down a Super Tuesday at PokerStars for $101,325.13.

Geilich is in Marbella and plans on defending his UKIPT title before jetting off to Las Vegas, Nevada where God only knows was the locals are going to make of his aggression – and accent!

Although there are satellites on June 9, the first actual tournament takes place at 7:00p.m. on June 10 and is the €150+€15 NL Hold’em Win the Button Freezeout. This popular format awards the button and the pot to whoever wins the hand, making for an interest dynamic.

Other side event include a €220 NL Hold’em, a €220 Double Chance Pot Limit Omaha, a €2,200 8-handed High Roller, a €110 Six-Handed turbo and the €330 Single Re-Entry Marbella Cup.

The UKIPT Marbella Main Event runs from June 11 through to June 15 and UK & Ireland PokerNews will have one ear to the ground throughout the tournament and will provide you folks at home with a daily recap of the action.

Good luck to the army of our players who have descended on Marbella for the UKIPT. Bring home the bacon, boys and girls!
