Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. We have an announcement to make. Our friends at PocketFives.com have updated their online poker rankings database and it has resulted in a major shakeup of the United Kingdom’s Top 20 leader board, including a brand new number one.
Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis has reclaimed the number one spot from Chris “moorman1” Moorman as a direct result of two deep runs in 2014 Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) events. Lewis finished 48th in the $2,100 NL Hold’em event for $6,882 and 146.03 leader board points and followed that result up with an impressive third place finish in the $1,050 Mixed NL Hold’em / PL Omaha for $38,720 ad 306.90 points.
There are a mere 85.19 points separating Lewis and fourth place, although that gap should widen next week when a couple of Lewis’ recent scores come into play. On Wednesday, Lewis won the $22 NL Hold’em 1R1A for $8,112 (207.99 points) and the $55+R NL Hold’em for $6,988 (180.28 points), both at PokerStars.
Another player who was on top of the podium at PokerStars this week was Rick “TheClaimeer” Trigg, who hung onto his second place in the rankings. Sheffield’s Trigg won the Hot $16.50 Turbo for $9,524 (246.26 points) and then binked the $55 NL Hold’em 1R1A for an additional $5,192 (155.40 points).
The SCOOP hasn’t been as kind to Trigg as it has to Lewis, but all it will take is Lady Luck to shine down on the grinder and all that could change.
You’ve probably guessed by now that Moorman has dropped to third place in the rankings, his lowest position for as long as we can remember. Moorman looks to be sunning himself in Mexico at the moment and isn’t putting in anywhere near as much volume as he usually does, perhaps saving himself for the upcoming World Series of Poker where he will surely snag some gold.
Climbing to fourth place and now finding himself within touching distance of the number one spot is Patrick “pleno1” Leonard. It has been an amazing 2014 so far for Leonard who seems to be going deep in every major online tournament he enters. His best results of the past week include a third place in the Full Tilt Poker T-Rex for $14,126 (187.51 points), a win in the PokerStars $33+R Nl Hold’em for $4552 (149.20 points) and a 34th place finish in the $2,100 NL Hold’em SCOOP Event that banked him $8,880 in prize money (179.59 points).
Although we expect Leonard to jetting off to Las Vegas for the WSOP, we also know that he would love to see his name at the top of the UK online poker rankings so expect a big push from him over the next few weeks.
Rounding out the top are the UK’s favourite ginger duo, Niall “firaldo87” Farrell and Christopher “NigDawG” Brammer. Farrell has had a couple of deep SCOOP runs since returning from an extended break following his FTOPS Main Event bink, while Brammer’s recent bad run of form looks to be over judging by his latest results that include a third place in the Full Tilt Poker Tyrannosaurus Rex and his win in the PokerStars $109 NL Hold’em Turbo – that last result netting Brammer over $14,000.

Rhys “floppinhel” Jones enjoyed a couple of big scores this week that weighed in at $11,177 and $24,731 respectively, his rewards for finishing sixth in the $250,000 Guarantee at Full Tilt Poker and then second in the PokerStars Big $162. Jones remains outside the Top 10 despite those impressive numbers, but he is only 90 points away from returning at the expense of Tom “hitthehole” Middleton.
Soaring into the Top 20 this week is Martin “susie00” Malone who you may recall came second in the $215 NL Hold’em Sunday Warm-Up Special Edition for a career-best score of $135,284. That epic result boosted Malone’s points total by 696.53 points and those, when added to the 159.44 he picked up for winning the Winamax XTASE, helped Malone climb to 17th in the table.
With the SCOOP coming to a close this weekend and with players wanting to bank one last big score before Vegas, expect fireworks at the online felt over the next seven days. Can Lewis hold onto the number one spot or will Trigg take over? You’ll find out next week.
