Last week, the Irish online poker rankings crowned a new number one when Gavin “gavonater” O’Rourke toppled Jude “j.thaddeus” Ainsworth off the top spot that he had held onto for so long. Fast forward seven days and O’Rourke is still the man to catch, but there have been a few changes lower down the leader board. Stay tuned to discover what those changes are.
Cathal “shinerrr” Shine is in superb form right now and as a result has soared into the top five places. A win in the PokerStars Hot $75 for $13,171 (274.50 points), a fourth place in the partypoker $25,000 Gtd Rebuy for $1,988 (68.82 points) and a fifth place in SCOOP Event #30, the $1,050 Super Tuesday, that netted him a career-best $76,930 (477.05 points) are the highlights of Shine’s past week.
Continuing his climb up the rankings is Marc “sluglife” Macdonnell who now finds his name in 9th place, up from 15th last week. Macdonnell can thank his win in the $82 NL Hold’em 6-Max Hyper Turbo at PokerStars ($6,078 and 174.33 points), a runner-up finish in the PokerStars.fr Big €100 ($1,922 and 67.24 points), and a seventh place finish in the Everest Poker Sunday Warm-Up ($1,011 and 54.71 points) for his new lofty position.
The standings have two new faces in them this week, one of which belongs to Nicholas “YerSoLucky” Newport from Dublin. Newport is rapidly approaching $400,000 in online tournament winnings, an impressive figure that is sure to be hit soon if he continues to put in results such as a win in the partypoker $6,000 Gtd Rebuy ($1,200 and 77.46 points), and a runner-up finish in the PokerStars $5.50 NL Hold’em 2R1A ($1,991 and 81.65 points).
New face number two is that of Peter “youngmulti” Murphy who has been helping himself to plenty of cash over at PokerStars’ French-facing site. Murphy recently finished second in the €30 NL Hold’em Turbo, had a handful of other cashes there and then added $2,338 to his coffers when he finished fourth in the Hot €100 on Wednesday.

A special shout out to the following two players who all managed to bink a nice score this week. Jude Ainsworth helped himself to $12,944 when he finished third in The Big $109 at PokerStars and UKIPT Dublin champion Kevin “SuitedAcesBaby” Killeen picked up $14,427 for his third place finish in the PokerStars $109 rebuy. Top work, gentlemen.
