Outspoken and often controversial, nobody would argue with you that Luke Schwartz knows how to talk the talk, but he can also walk the walk and in the early hours of Wednesday morning Schwartz won his second Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) title.
Schwartz was one of 138 players who ponied up the $2,100 required to enter the SCOOP-29-High Fixed Limit Hold’em 6-Max event, perhaps not the most popular tournament on the SCOOP schedule but still one that saw a $276,000 prize pool created.
Among the 138 starters were some of Schwartz’s fellow Brits (and one Irishman) such as Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi (82nd), Phil “Jackal69” Shaw (65th) and Jason “blaaaaaah666” Tompkins (55th) failed to progress to the money places, although “tomacampi” (18th for $3,588) and “TheMuppet” (17th for $3,588) both saw a return on their hefty investment.
It took quite some time for the tournament to progress from the money places – 18 places were paid – to its final table, but what a final table it was. Joining Schwartz, who plays at PokerStars using the alias “lb6121,” were Mike “SirWatts” Watson and Paul “paulgees81” Volpe among others.
First to fall was Russia’s “Aramesko” and he was followed out of the door by the aforementioned Watson and Volpe.
The three remaining players entertained the thought of striking a deal, yet play continued with the original payout structure intact until Poland’s “DannStarr” busted in third place.
With DannStarr out of the way, Schwartz and his heads-up opponent, “alex987,” agreed to split the remaining prize pool via an ICM calculation with an additional $2,000 set aside for the man crowned champion.
Those extra funds and the untold value of bragging rights are now with Schwartz after he played well an ran hotter in the heads-up match to claim what is his second SCOOP title, having won the $5,200 Pot Limit Omaha 6-Max event in 2012.
