Local Player Philip Duffey Leads GPS Stoke Main Event

Local Player Philip Duffey Leads GPS Stoke Main Event 0001

Philip Duffey is one of the regulars at the Genting Club in Stoke and has a dozen tournament cashes there. The largest of those in-the-money finishes came in the 2013 edition of the Genting Poker Series (GPS) Stoke Main Event when Duffey finished in 11th place to walk away with £1,575 to show for his efforts.

There’s still a long, long way to go in the 2014 GPS Stoke Main Event, but Duffey has given himself the best possible chance of at least repeating his heroic finish of last year by ended Day 1b with a tournament leading stack of 293,300 chips.

Kuljinder Sidhu is Duffey’s closest rival having bagged up 188,500 chips at the close of play. Sidhu has a long list of cashes in major events across the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe, but is yet to reach the money in a GPS Main Event. Maybe that will change this weekend?

Other notables among the 38 survivors – 108 started the day – include Philip Duffey is one of the regulars at the Genting Club in Stoke and has a dozen tournament cashes there. Day 1c, the third and final starting flight, takes place at 1:00pm on Friday and a crowd of over 200 is expected to be in attendance. However many turn up they will play 10 hour-long levels and each of the starters will hope to follow in Duffey’s footsteps and climb to the top of the chip counts. Will anyone toppled Duffey? We don’t have long to wait to find out.
