Ben Dobson and Martin Malone Win Six-Figure Scores at the 2014 SCOOP

Ben Dobson and Martin Malone Win Six-Figure Scores at the 2014 SCOOP 0001

The juggernaut that is the PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) continued its journey on Monday with plenty of British and Irish players hitching a ride towards Value Town.

One of the events that had progressed to its Day 2 and needed completing was the SCOOP-22-M: $215 NL Hold’em Sunday Warm-Up Special Edition, a tournament that started with 5,573 players and had $174,359.20 reserved for its champion.

Sadly, there wasn’t a British or Irish champion, but that’s not to say we’re too disappointed because the nine-handed final table did have two of our heroes present and correct and both helped themselves to huge scores.

Phill “bergeroo” Huxley locked up his second largest score of his career when he picked up $47,370.50 for his impressive 5th place finish. Shortly after Huxley has busted, the remaining four players agreed upon a deal that saw Martin “susie00” Malone guarantee himself a $135,283.93 payday – beating his previous largest online tournament win by some $83,000!

Both Huxley and Malone should soar up the UK online poker tournament rankings at the next update as they picked up a combined 1,000 leader board points. Huxley has been hovering around the Top 20 and could break into it once his new points are added and the same is true for Malone.

Congratulations, gentlemen.

The second of the Sunday Majors that continued into Monday was the SCOOP-23-M: $215 NL Hold’em Sunday Million Special Edition that smashed its $1 million guarantee by over $670,000.

Once the tournament reached its final table, there were two players who call the UK home seated at it. Supernova Elite Sergi “srxakgirona” Reixach may be Spanish but he calls London home and for that fact alone we have to give him a round of applause for finishing third in this tournament and adding $133,872.00 to his bankroll.

An even larger, longer and louder round of applause is directed at Ben “f3nix35” Dobson who fell at the final hurdle and finished second, but not before he negotiated a deal that banked the popular pro a career-best $200,806.35!

Over in the SCOOP-22-L: $27 NL Hold’em $300,000 Guarantee, the UK’s “MillianKiller” defeated online stalwart Gordon “[email protected]” Vayo heads-up and walked away with a SCOOP title and an impressive $41,979.02 in cold, hard cash.

Ireland’s "TTimallin", fresh from a third place finish in the Sunday Million in January, bagged a similar score to MillianKiller when they finished second in the SCOOP-23-L: $27 NL Hold’em $400K Gtd. TTimallin is now $44,802.41 richer that he was a couple of nights ago, nice work if you can get it.

Last but not least we have to give a shoutout to the online legend that is Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis who narrowly missed out on a ‘COOP Triple Crown. Lewis already has a TCOOP and WCOOP gong on his mantelpiece and almost binked a SCOOP last night but fell in third place in the SCOOP-25-H: $1,050 Mixed NL Hold’em / PL Omaha event. Although Lewis will be bitterly disappointed not to have won, the $38,720 third place prize money is sure to soften the blow.

Tuesday sees a $27, $215 and $2,100 Fixed Limit Triple Draw 2-7 tournament take place, in addition to $27, $215 and $2,100 Fixed Limit Hold’em 6-Max events and an $11, $109 and $1,050 No Limit Hold’em set of tournaments.

The best of luck to all British and Irish players competing in May 13’s SCOOP events.
