Ainsworth Closes the Gap on O’Rourke In Irish Rankings

Jude Ainsworth

For as long I had been writing about the top Irish online poker tournament players, it was the name of Jude Ainsworth who was at the very top of the leader board. Then, a couple of weeks ago, Gavin “gavonater” O’Rourke toppled Ainsworth from the top of the tree and has been on top since.

Ainsworth has not become disheartened, instead he has upped his volume and grinded like a true champion. As is usually the case when top players play more tournaments, the reslts start to flood in.

A sixth place in the $109 NL Hold’em Turbo 1R1A at PokerStars for $6,022, a third place in the PokerStars.fr Monday Night on Stars for $8,682, a win in the Full Tilt Poker Tyrannosaurus Rex for $6,750 and a second place finish in the PokerStars $109+R NL Hold’em for $7,488 are only four of the great results the former Team PokerStars Pro has banked over the past few days.

O’Rourke was able to keep his talented near rival at bay by putting together a couple of deep runs in Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) events and by winning the 888poker $10,000 Tornado and finishing well into the money in the France Poker Series Online Main Event at PokerStars’ French-facing outfit.

The only change to last week’s Top 10 is Daniel “danielt999” Tighe moving up once from 11th place and into 9th. Tighe’s leader board points tally received a boost thanks to him winning the PokerStars $33+R NL Hold’em 6-Max for $1,395, finishing second in the $55+R NL Hold’em at PokerStars for $3,776 and coming third in the $33 Omania, against at PokerStars, for $1,332.

Also on the climb this week was the legend that is Dara “Doke” O’Kearney. The satellite master won the PokerStars.fr Big €20 for $3,037 and the partypoker $10,000 Gtd Turbo Rebuy for $1,800 in addition to at least 30 other cashes.

Before I locked this article down, I have to give a shout out to Nicholas “YerSoLucky” Newport who completed his first PocketFives.com Triple Crown on Thursday night. The Triple Crown is awarded to any player who managed three wins on three different online poker sites, which is exactly what Newpot did.

A win in the 888poker Monsoon for $4,180 was followed up with a bink in the PokerStars $27.50 NL Hold’em 360 Cap for $1,506 and then a victory in the Full Tilt Poker TenneR for $1,950. Top work, sir!
