There is a long-running saying in the online poker world that goes something like “click a mouse, win a house” and that is exactly what Niall “Firaldo87” Farrell did this weekend when he outlasted a star-studded field of 2,557 entries in the Full Tilt Poker FTOPS Main Event to secure a massive $236,232.74 payout.
Prior to this massive win, Farrell’s largest online score weighed in at $59,737, his reward for winning the PokerStars Sunday Rebuy in December 2012. Now he has won more than four times that already impressive amount after taking down the $635 buy-in FTOPS Main Event.
A number of prominent British and Irish players navigated their way to the top 270 places where the $1,534,200 prize pool was distributed. Names such as Ben “BLLGATESTILTIN” Jones (140th for $1,380,78), David “sluggy27” Vamplew (106th for $1,687.62), Paul “LEADBOOTS” Foltyn (101st for $1,687.62), Tom “hitthehole” Middleton (91st for $1,687.62), Christopher “MAKKAPAKK” Johnson (80th for $2,147.88), Rick “TheClaimer” Trigg (75th for $2,147.88), Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Dermot Blain (42nd for $3,682.08), and Balin’s fellow Irishman “Cumin At Me Bro” (12th for $13,807.60) being a few of those who helped themselves to a slice of the prize pool.
Chopped FTOPS Main 3 handed with Chilax Chuck and @MikeMcDonald89 for $200k each. Unbelievably happy, playing for 36k and the jersey now :)Follow @Firaldo87poker
Each of the players who reached the final table has locked up $19,944.60 for themselves, but by the time only three players remained that amount had increased to more than $142,000. Those three players (Farrell, “Chilax Chuck” and the legendary Mike McDonald) decided to take $200,000 each and play on for the remaining $36,232.74. That extra $36K is now nestled in the Full Tilt Poker account of Farrell after McDonald fell in third place and Farrell then beat Chilax Chuck heads up for the title of champion!
Also banking large sums of cash at Full Tilt Poker were Jono “Spyver” Beck who grabbed $63,726.06 after a four-way chop in the FTOPS Event #30, “Luckypom” who finished 6th in the same tournament for $13,728.60, and “Smug91” who is $16,669.90 richer thanks to winning the Big ben tournament. Ben Jones came fifth in that tournament for $5,141.50.
Last but not least, Toby “sexystuff1989” Lewis added $4,401.00 to his lifetime winnings by finishing seventh in The T-Rex.
Ross Cleverly Wins 3rd Anniversary Sunday Storm for $115,823.58
This weekend saw the 3rd Anniversary Sunday Storm take place at PokerStars and to celebrate its birthday, PokerStars guaranteed a $1,000,000 prize pool for a paltry $11 buy-in. That guarantee was smashed as 118,716 players bought into the tournament, upping the prize pool to $1,187,160.
More than $185,000 of that impressive sum was won by two British players. “XMERCILESS” finished second for $70,873.45 losing heads-up to Ross “rosscleverly” Cleverly of Cardiff who himself took home $115,823.58. Amazing stuff, enjoy the dough!
Two other Brits fought their way through huge fields, namely the 8,010 strong Sunday Million, to scoop big chunks of cash. “db10ISgod” finished 5th for $64,080.00 while Ben “vindog03” Vinson went one better and finished 4th for $80,740.80.
Other honourable mentions have to go to “vicwellsuk” for their 5th place finish in the Sunday Warm-Up for $30,345.00 and Leeds’ Jamie “Bear4rms” Sykes for finishing 2nd in the Sunday Rebuy for $42,132.60. Top work, gentlemen!
