Ever since I started writing the Irish online poker rankings articles for UK & Ireland PokerNews it has been the name of former Team PokerStars Pro Jude Ainsworth who is first on the leader board. The man from Galway continues to bank large scores in some of the toughest tournaments online poker has to offer.
A few nights ago, Ainsworth battled his way through the majority of the 647-strong field in the Full Tilt Poker Big Ben before falling in third place for a $7,278.75 addition to his bankroll. That was by far the largest of Ainsworth’s six cashes from last week, a figure that is much lower than usual due to Ainsworth battling it out in the live arena at the Irish Open.
Ainsworth has 5,387.38 points using the PocketFives.com system, meaning he has a 440.18 point advantage over his closest rival Gavin “gavonater” O’Rourke. With no cashes over the past week, O’Rourke hasn’t managed to gain any ground on Ainsworth, but Tomas “luckymo32” Geleziunas did.
Geleziunas loves to put in plenty of volume and when solid players get their grind on, results usually follow. The best of Geleziunas’ 19 cashes were an outright win in the $33 NL Hold’em rebuy for $3,828 and a runner-up finish in the $55 NL Hold’em 1R1A for $2,746 both at PokerStars.
Another man in good form is Cathal “shinerrr” Shine who in the past couple of weeks has finished 3rd in a $109 NL Hold’em Turbo at PokerStars for $2,515 and finished 2nd in PokerStars’ France-facing site’s €300 buy-in High Roller for $13,050. Also, Shiner binked the Hot $55 at PokerStars for a cool $12,270. Those results have resulted in Shine climbing to 7th in the Irish rankings.

Looking set to burst into the Top 10 ranking places is Greg “gregt18”” Travers who has had a fantastic April at the virtual felt. Travers’ April highlights include:
- A win in the PokerStars $55 NL Hold’em 1R1A for $2,934
- A win in the PokerStars $44 NL Hold’em 4-Max for $1,428
- A win in the PokerStars Hotter $44 for $17,558
- A 5th in the PokerStars Hot $55 for $3,079
If Travers continues in this rich vein of form he is sure to break into the top 10.
Before signing off, I have to give a shoutout to Frank “Denman98” Lillis for winning the PokerStars $11 NL Hold’em rebuy for a monster-sized $11,566 score – the second largest of Lillis’ online career so far.
With the 2014 Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) only a week or so away, there is plenty of opportunity for players in the Top 20 and outside of it too to bank massive scores. Thanks to the SCOOP having three buy-in levels, players of all bankrolls have a shot at some bankroll-boosting wins and that could see the Irish online poker rankings receive a major shakeup.
