Trickett and Watts Reach Final 18 of WPT Venice Carnival
Two of British poker’s most recognisable stars have reached the penultimate day’s play in the Gioco Digitale World Poker Tour Venice Carnival Main Event and look set for a final table appearance.
The new Everest Poker ambassador Sam Trickett and former professional footballer Steve Watts return to the Casino di Venezia on Friday afternoon armed with stacks of 350,000 and 252,000 chips respectively, putting them both in the top 10 chip counts.
It isn’t often we get to see Trickett in action on the World Poker Tour (WPT), but his new role of Everest Poker ambassador means we should see him frequent more European based live events. Trickett goes into Day 4 knowing he has locked up his first ever cash on the WPT and will be pulling out all of the stops to ensure his first WPT cash is an outright victory.
This is Watts’ third cash on the WPT and he will be hoping to continue the trend of reaching the final table each time he makes it into the money. Watts’ previous WPT cashes are a fifth place in the WPT Dublin Main Event (€39,270) and a seventh place finish in the WPT National Marbella Main Event (€13,500).
Both Trickett and Watts have been seated at the same table at the start of Day 4 and it is easily the tougher of the two remaining tables. The newly crowned European Poker Tour Deauville champion Sotorios Koutoupas (431,500), the talented Diego Zeiter (377,500) and the popular Italian Max Pescatori (127,000) are three of the other big names seated with the British duo.
Play resumes at 2:30pm local time and continues until there have been 12 eliminations and the six-handed final table is set. Will Trickett and Watts navigate their way through Day 4 and earn their seat at the finale? We certainly hope so.
