Sunday Briefing: Patrick Leonard’s Streak Continues

Sunday Briefing: Patrick Leonard’s Streak Continues 0001

Those of you who read last week’s Sunday Briefing will probably have been in awe at the fantastic set of results that Patrick “Pleno1” Leonard put in at the felt over that weekend. For those of you who are too busy to click the hyperlink to last week’s article, let me give you some cliffnotes:

  • 30th in the Sky Poker UK Poker Championships Main Event for £3,500.
  • 1st in the PokerStars $33 1R1A for $5,653.38
  • Chopped the Sunday 6-Max heads-up for €7,549.00
  • Split the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up three-ways for $94,000.57

This Sunday, Leonard helped himself to a handful of small scores at PokerStars before embarking on an amazing run in the $8 million guaranteed Sunday Million 8th Anniversary. Leonard outlasted almost all of the 46,586 entrants in the tournament, before falling in ninth place to be the first player to bust from the final table. Obviously disappointed not to go all the way and win, Leonard’s pain should be eased by the $110,874.68 that he picked up for his final table appearance.

Amazingly, Leonard was not the only British player at the final table because “temp0r2k” was also present. A quick search of the usual places on the internet failed to bring up much information on temp0r2k — the only real info was some old hand histories from the NL25 full ring games at PokerStars!

Although not on par with Leonard and temp0r2k’s epic scores, there were still some impressive results from British and Irish players in this weekend’s PokerStars Sunday Majors. For example, Scott “Aggro Santos” Margereson took down the Sunday Kickoff for $29,600; defeating fellow Brit “lionel1958” heads-up. Lionel1958 banked $22,200.

Also at PokerStars, Tom “GaggleoKings” Ambler finished 5th in The Bigger $109 for $18,640.50 while Keith “KungFuMonk” Johnson was busy helping himself to $36,296.40 by finishing fourth in the Sunday 500.

Ireland’s Daniel “DanielT999” Tighe was among the big winners, too. Tighe chopped The Bigger $162 three ways for a $39,263.50 score, while Leon “flippetyflop” Louis (5th in the Sunday 2nd Chance for $18,097.50) and Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi (3rd in the Sunday Supersonic for $38,672.41) joined Tighe and co in the winner’s circle.

Big Scores Galore at Full Tilt Poker

It wasn’t only PokerStars where British and Irish grinders were tearing up the virtual felt, they had some fantastic results at Full Tilt Poker, too.

The Sunday Brawl is traditionally a tournament that our players do well in and this week was no different. Martin “FishMobRep” Malone and Sebastian “thereal_bandito” Saffari navigated their way to the final table, falling in third and seventh place for scores of $23,294.00 and $7,110.80 respectively.

The deepest any of our heroes went in this week’s $250,000 Guarantee was Jude “j__thaddeus” Ainsworth who eventually finished in 12th place for $3,038.00 while Jareth “hteraaj2001” East added $7,308.00 to his coffers by finishing sixth in the $635 buy-in Super Sizes Sunday.

Also booking a sixth place finish was Jesse “EgoTestacle” Algranti who took advantage of the multi-entry format and bought into the MTOPS Main Event three times. Algranti managed to bank two small cashes before going on to finish sixth overall for a cool $11,500.00 score.

Last, but not least, was the exploits of Rhys “floppin_ell” Jones who binked the Turbo Multi-Hundo in the early hours of Monday morning. Jones chopped heads-up with “Mrluckypants” and took home $16,881.60.
