Simon Deadman Enters UK GPI Top 10 and Leads 2014 UK POY

Simon Deadman

Serial second place finisher Simon Deadman is now one of the top 10 poker tournament players in the United Kingdom according to the Global Poker Index rankings.

Deadman climbed from 13th place to 10th in the UK following the latest update to the GPI standings thanks to his runner-up finish in the 2014 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Manchester Main Event being added to his results and points tally.

The 26-year old has been in scintillating form throughout 2014 so far and his reputation for being one of the best poker players in Europe gains more credit with every event that he enters. Deadman now has a total of 1,887.71 points in the GPI rankings which put him 10th in the UK and a career-high of 149th in the entire world.

The Leeds-based pro’s electric start to 2014 has seen him propelled to the top of the UK Player of the Year leader board, albeit by a slender lead of only 1.94 points from another in-form young man in the shape of Oliver Price.

Toby Lewis, Jack Salter, Christopher Brammer, Senh Man Ung and Deadman make up the rest of the top 10 ranked players.

Re-joining the top 20 this week is Rhys Jones, “floppinhel” in the online poker world. Jones’s win in the GUKPT Manchester Main Event – he defeated Deadman heads-up – banked him £42,000 and 251.13 leader board points. This point boost pushed Jones into 14th place in the UK rankings and up to 176th in the world – his highest position since the creation of the GPI.

Also moving in a northerly direction is the vocal former professional footballer Steve Watts. A 16th place in the recent WPT Venice Main Event boosted his points total by 183.46 and had his pocket kings held against Sotrios Koutoupas’s dominated {K-}{J-} Watts could have climbed to an even loftier position.

2014 UK Player of the Year Race Heats Up

As mentioned, it is Simon Deadman who tops the current 2014 UK player of the Year leader board, ahead of Oliver Price by a margin of less than two points! In fact there are less than 26 points separating Deadman from Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree in third place and Paris-based Welshman Jeremy Nock in fourth.

With the Eureka Poker Tour Vienna festival under way and the European Poker Tour Vienna festival around the corner, there are plenty of chances to secure huge scores and crucial GPI leader board points over the next couple of weeks.
