Brits Set To Descend On Spain For the Marbella Poker Festival
Spain is a country that Brits hold close to their heart. It is one of our most popular foreign holiday destinations with over 13.8 million visits to España since 2005, a figure that is set to rise even higher in the coming weeks as scores of our best poker talent heads to Malaga for the 2014 Marbella Poker Festival.
Running from April 4 through to April 17, the Marbella Poker Festival offers more than 15 events. The only thing hotter than the Costa Del Sol weather will be the poker action that’s taking place! The two largest buy-in tournaments are the World Poker Tour National Marbella Main Event, and High Roller and The Grand Marbella Main Event that take place on April 12 and April 14 respectively.
The WPT National Marbella High Roller costs €1,500 to buy into and has proven to be a popular event with British grinders. When the same tournament ran in 2013, there were scores of Brits among the 236 entries, eight of them managed to make into the money places (bolded in the table below) and two – Steve Watts (7th) and Scott O’Reilly (5th) — reached its final table.
There is also the €550 buy-in Main Event that features a massive €100,000 guaranteed prize pool!
2013 World Poker Tour National Main Event Results
|2||Rasmus Agerskov Larsen||€57,000|
|14||Angel de Nicolas||€4,900|
|17||Marco van Opzeeland||€4,100|
|25||Richard Antony Cashman||€2,900|
The WPT National Marbella starts on April 12 and has its final table on April 14, which incidentally is when the four-day The Grand Live Main Event kicks off.
It will be the first time The Grand has dropped anchor in Marbella, although The Grand's previous incarnation GSOP Live ran a superb event in 2013, one that saw 392 players create a prize pool of €380,240. The lion's share of that huge sum was awarded to Mario Sanchez who walked away from the Casino Marbella with the title and €74,150 in his back pocket.
Brits such as Matthew Adams (3rd for €34,990), Gareth Teatum (10th for €7,035), Ben Carpenter (19th for €3,040) and Charles Chattha (33rd for €2,660) were just a handful of our stars to make it into the money places.
You should be able to win your way to the WPT National Marbella over at partypoker. Although there are no satellites for Marbella currently running, there should be some appearing in the next week once the bulk of the WPT National Newcastle qualifiers have run their course.
