Patrick Humphreys Tops IPO Galway Day 1b Field

Patrick Humphreys

Day 1b of the BoylePoker IPO Galway Main Event took place at the Radisson Blu hotel on Friday and saw an additional €56,400 added to the ever-growing prize pool as 174 players exchanged €230 for the chance to become an IPO champion.

By the time renowned tournament director JP McCann called time on Day 1b’s proceedings, more than two-thirds of the field had lost their stacks, leaving only 50 players to progress to Sundays Day 2. Leading those 50 survivors was Patrick Humphreys who ended the night with 341,500 chips in front of him.

Humpreys was nursing a 25,000 stack at 11:00pm but managed to turn things around over the course of the next three hours to have the welcomed problem of having to fit his massive stack into an overnight chip bag. Humprheys’ impressive total surpassed that of Day 1a chip leader Joe Quinn who finished his starting flight with a still impressive 311,000 chips.

Humpreys’ late run up the chip counts put some distance between him and second placed Laura Mulhern – Mulhern ended with 200,300 chips. Other big stacks include Zeik Tuit (188,600), Rory Brown (183,200) and Lithuania’s Vytautas Milbutas (180,000).

Day 1c, the final starting flight, takes place on Saturday at the earlier time of 12:00 pm and should be the biggest of the three starting flights. Players are advised to register for Day 1c at the BoylePoker online site as soon as possible to avoid potential lengthy delays in being seated – yes they are expecting that large of a crowd.

Tune into UK & Ireland PokerNews on Sunday morning to discover how large the Day 1c field was and if anyone managed to eclipse Humphreys’ colossal total.
