The final starting flight of any live poker tournament is traditionally the busiest day and the 2-14 BoylePoker IPO Galway Main Event followed this trend. Day 1a attracted 108 players through the door of the Radisson Blu hotel, while Day 1b upped the ante and 174 entries were taken. Saturday’s Day 1c witnessed a staggering 324 entrants, taking the total attendance to 606 and boosting the prize pool to €125,200!
Topping the chip counts at the end of Day 1c was Niall Henderson who bagged up 263,700 chips at the end of the 14th level of play. Henderson is a regular on the Irish poker scene and has three cashes in Galway-based events. The most recent of those Galway cashes came in a €150 side event at the PokerStars UKIPT in July. Will he be adding a fourth Galway cash in the next couple of days?
Six other Day 1c entrants finished with stacks larger than 200,000; Brendan Byrne (259,900), James Lane (251,500), Jason Ward (236,000), Liam Hughes Jnr (230,600), Gintaras Sabaitis (216,800) and Mark Strahan (208,500).

Sunday is Day 2 and sees 176 players return to their seats to battle for what is a €25,000 first place prize, which is insane considering the tournament only cost €230 to buy into! 104 players will go home empty handed because only the top 72 finishers receive a slice of the prize pool, a min-cash being worth €400 and a final table appearance locking up €2,600.
Leading the way going into Day 2 is Day 1b’s chip leader Patrick Humphreys on 341,500 chips, followed by Joe Quinn (311,000) and David Masters (306,100). Can these three players continue to build on impressive starts, or will Lady Luck shine on someone else in Galway this afternoon? Tune into UK & Ireland PokerNews on Monday to discover all of the news from the Day 2 of the IPO Galway Main Event.
