The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) London Main Event kicks off on Thursday afternoon at The Poker Room in the famous London Victoria Casino and the £200,000 guaranteed prize pool is should be shattered. Scores of the United Kingdom’s best poker talent is en route to the casino for the first of two starting flights in the £1,080 buy-in Main Event with Friday’s Day 1b field expected to be much the busier of the two.
For their £1,080 buy-in, players receive a generous helping of 20,000 chips and get to play to a tried and tested 60-minute blind structure. Should they go on and lose their stack, players can re-enter and try again – providing they are willing to pony up another £1,080.
Last year’s GUKPT London Main Event attracted 397 runners including Martin Jacobson, Carlo Citrone, Rhys Jones, Willie Tann, Steve Watts, Kevin Williams, back-to-back World Poker Tour champion Marvin Rettenmaier, Tamer Kamel, Nick Crisp and Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Sin Melin.
It was eventually won by Martin Bader who took home £56,000 for his efforts following a number of deals at the final table, a final table that housed players such as the aforementioned Melin, Jamie Roberts, Marc “dean23price” Wright, Jeff Duval and David “Doobs” Barraclough.
Will it be a stellar name who joins the list of luminaires who have already conquered the GUKPT London Main Event? We do not have long to wait to find out. Good luck everyone!
