Brits Dominate The Sunday Majors With Four Outright Wins!
British poker players continued their domination of the online poker scene with some scintillating performances at the virtual felt in this week’s Sunday Majors. There were plenty of huge scores secured by our heroes, not least from the four stars who kicked 2014 off in style by winning a coveted Sunday Major title.
Ben “jenbizzle” Jones has had one of the most ridiculous starts to year that I have witnessed in all my years in poker. Pages on calendars around the world were flicking over to 2014 as Jones won both the Full Tilt Poker Tyrannosaurus Rex ($7,125) and the PokerStars Nightly Fifty Grand ($10,130). On New Year’s Day, while most poker players were recovering from a night of excess, Jones was busy winning back-to-back Tyrannosaurus Rex ($7,088) tournaments, finishing second in a $33 6-max rebuy at PokerStars ($1,280) and coming third in the PokerStars $109 Turbo ($3,028).
Since those superb results, Jones has won the $51 NL Hold’em Hyper-Turbo at PokerStars ($4,059), the Full Tilt Poker Friday Night Fight ($7,080) and last night Jones helped himself to the second largest online score of his career when he picked up the $56,480 first place prize in the Full Tilt Poker $250,000 Guarantee! The boy is unstoppable at the moment; how long can this remarkable run of form last?

The Sunday Majors at PokerStars are the biggest weekly tournaments in the online poker world and feature some massive prize pools. Plenty of our players benefitted from the huge prizes on offer, with Charlie “JIZOINT” Combes and Marcin “MARCIN123” Milde helping themselves to combined scores of over $84,200!
Having finished 15/1138 in the Full Tilt Poker Sunday Brawl earlier in the night, Combes found himself three-handed in the PokerStars $109 Sunday Rebuy. After some negotiating, a deal was struck with those final three players. Combes went on to win and took home $47,490.48 for his efforts, a result that pushed Combes’ online career earnings past the $4 million barrier, half of which has come from PokerStars tournaments. When the PocketFives.com rankings are updated on Wednesday, Combes should be within touching distance of the United Kingdom’s number one player, Chris Moorman.
Another player who has done his ranking no harm at all is the aforementioned Milde who took down PokerStars The Bigger $162 after a dealing heads-up with Germany’s “SsicK_OnE”. Milde netted an impressive $36,750.33 – the second largest cash of his career – and a bagful of leader board points, which means his position as Leeds’ number one is cemented and his is bound to improve on his UK rank of 16th.

The $125,000 Mega Deep tournament at 888poker is a firm favourite with poker pros thanks to its superb structure and big, top-heavy payouts. This week’s edition sported a $35,720 top prize, a prize that is now nestled in the 888poker account of Ben “F3nix35” Dobson.
By the time this article goes live, Dobson will be on his way to the Bahamas to compete in a number of events at the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure – good luck, sir!
The cousin of the $125,000 Mega Deep is the $60,000 Turbo Mega Deep, another popular tournament. Its popularity increased with two of our players this weekend as Jon “FundMyMatiz” Spinks and Rick “WhosToClaim” Trigg finished second and third for $10,407.30 and $6,780 scores.
Congratulations to everyone who managed to have a profitable Sunday, especially those players mentioned on this page. Here’s to the rest of this week being filled with news of British and Irish players smashing up the online poker scene.
