The second and final start day of the 2013 Genting Poker Series Grand Final took place at the Genting Club Sheffield on Friday afternoon and what a great day of poker it was. By the time the registration desk pulled down its shutters and players could no longer buy-in, there were 178 entries on Day 1b, which took the total attendance to 262 players.
Finishing at the top of the Day 1b chip counts and leading the tournament overall is the Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Sin Melin. The talented female player had to cram 338,600 chips into the overnight chip bag, eclipsing the 313,400 stack of Day 1a’s Shane Mossop.
Melin has been in great form throughout 2013 and has been knocking on the door of a huge cash. At the start of the year Melin reached the final table of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) London Main Event, but crashed out in ninth place. Then in October 2013, Melin navigated her way to a seventh place finish at GUKPT Luton. Thanks to the amazing start she has had in the GPT Grand Final, we would not bet against her making it to another final table by the time this weekend is over.
The field on Day 1b was jam-packed with familiar faces from the UK poker scene, and many of them managed to make it through to Saturday’s Day 2. Lawrence Gosney (276,000) and Jamie O’Connor (206,200) were two of five players to end the night with over 200,000 chips, while luminaries such as Ben Vinson (160,700), Sam Grafton (144,000), Ben Jackson (111,100), Marcin Milde (77,400), Paul Jackson (76,300), American star Andrew Badecker (48,900) and Ellie Biessek (48,300) are also still in contention.
