The penultimate leg of the 2013 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) is in full swing at the seaside resort of Blackpool, where in a couple of days the £1,070 buy-in GUKPT Blackpool Main Event kicks off.
Like the Luton leg that proceeded it, the Blackpool leg is one of the most popular stops on the GUKPT, possibly because you can’t help but smile whenever you are at the seaside! Being the last leg before the season-ending Grand Final helps boost Blackpool’s appeal.
Last year’s GUKPT Blackpool Main Event attracted 173 players through the doors of the G Casino at The Sandcastle, among them the instantly recognisable Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, Jon Kalmar, John Eames and Stuart Rutter, although none of these managed to progress to the money places.
The final table was a star-studded affair with the likes of Luke Reeves, Ian Gascoigne and Simon Deadman locking horns over the £49,290 first place prize. When the dust settled on the casino and the tide had gone back out, it was Deadman who emerged victorious and the near £50,000 prize was his – more than enough for a few donkey rides on the beach!
This year should see a similarly sized crowd descend on Blackpool. Although it is too late to qualify for the GUKPT Blackpool Main Event online, we do believe there are a number of extra-value satellite tournaments taking place between now and Friday’s Day 1B at the G Casino at The Sandcastle so head down there and get in on the action.
