2013 PokerStars.com UKIPT Isle of Man Day 3: Jamie O’Connor On Top at the Final Table
Day 3 of the PokerStars.com UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event started with 30 players and after five hour-long levels, all but eight of those 30 hopefuls had lost their stacks and busted from the special event. Leading the final eight players into battle on Day 4 is the Leeds-based pro Jamie O’Connor.
O’Connor starts the fourth and final day armed with a 1,243,000 stack and is in pole position to add a prestigious UKIPT Main Event title to the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) gong he already has. In October 2012, O’Connor topped a stellar field in the GUKPT Luton Main Event to head back north with £45,760 in his back pocket. Should he go all the way in the UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event, he will fly back home with more than double that sum — £94,090 to be exact.
Standing between O’Connor and the near £100,000 score are seven players who have each reached the grand finale on merit. Only two other players managed to end Day 3 with seven-figure stacks, Duncan McLellan (1,161,000) and Daniel Stacey (1,087,000) being those players.
McLellan is a regular at the Dusk Till Dawn poker room in Nottingham, a venue where the majority of his $31,140 career winnings stem from. Even if the unthinkable happens and McLellan busts from the UKIPT Isle of Man final table in eighth place, he will still have secured the largest cash of his live tournament career; the £11,455 he would pick up surpasses his previous best of £10,938.
Stacey is a man in form and will fancy his chances of glory on the Isle of Man. Last month, at the UKIPT London Main Event, Stacey finished in 11th place for a cash haul of £8,480. Despite winning the largest cash of his career, Stacey was bitterly disappointed not to have reached the final table, something he has put right this time around.
Making up the rest of the final table, but not only there to make up the numbers are, Scotland’s Richard Milne, Christopher Jonat, Adam Topping, Harry Lodge the Dutch former hockey star Fatima Moreira De Melo.
Play resumes at 12:00 noon and continues until one man, or woman, has won all of the chips in play. Who will that player be? Head over to our UKIPT Isle of Man Live Reporting page for all of the live updates and tune into UK & Ireland PokerNews on Tuesday morning for a full recap of the final table’s action.
