The Luton leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) has always been one that the professionals turn out in force for and the 2013 edition is no different. Including re-entries, there were 92 buy-ins into the 2013 GUKPT Luton Main Event, among them some of the United Kingdom’s most established and recognised players.
Topping the leader board thanks to turning his 20,000 starting stack into 138,825 over the course of nine 60-minute levels is William Chattaway. Better known for his online poker exploits than his live results, Chattaway hopes to change by the time this tournament concludes. In the live arena, Chattaway has two cashes, the latest being for €1,950, his reward for finishing 25th in an Estrellas Poker Tour event in 2012.
Online, Chattaway is something of a boss and has amassed winnings in excess of $1,575,000. In 2012, Chattaway was ranked 21st in the world and although he has since slipped to 500th, he still knows his way around the poker table and is a force to be reckoned with in the GULPT Luton Main Event.
Two toher players finished Day 1A of the £1,070 buy-in tournament with six-figure stacks; Aurelian Chireci bagged up 126,925 chips, while Ergun Macit crammed chips worth 103,800 into the overnight chip bag.
Thirty-three players had chips to bag up at the end of the night and judging by some of the names still in contention, Day 2 could be a spectacle to behold.
Those of you who are following the action over at the GUKPT blog will be able to read updates on Alex Goulder (67,200), Ross Boatman (64,375), Ben “F3nix35” Dobson (57,500), GUKPT Grand Final champion Sam Grafton (54,125), and European Poker Tour Loutraki winner Zimnan Ziyard (48,425).
That is not all either because these players also made it through to Saturday’s Day 2: World Series of Poker bracelet winner Mike Ellis (46,075), online grinder Andrew “stato_1” Hulme (37,350), Nick Crisp (34,800), WPT National Ireland winner Simon Deadman (33,400), Mitch Johnson (29,250), and Leon Louis (26,700).
Day 1b kicks off at 12:00 noon and continues until nine levels are completed. An even larger crowd is expected to descend on the G Casino this afternoon with the likes of Julian Thew, Jeff Kimber and Barny Boatman among them.
