Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford City was rocking on Thursday as 188 players piled into its poker room for the first of three starting flights in the inaugural partypoker World Poker Tour (WPT) National UK London Main Event.
Of those 188 entries, only 73 managed to make it through to Saturday’s Day 2. Topping the leader board at the end of the first flight is Jodie Wallace who turned her 20,000 starting stack into a much more substantial 118,200 chips. Wallace, a hospital worker, won her £200 buy-in in a £25 satellite held at Aspers Westfield last week.
Timotheos Timotheou is a regular on the London poker scene so it was no surprise to see him pony up the £200 for this event. Timotheou, often called “Tim Tim,” had a great day at the felt that ended with him bagging up 117,100 chips, enough to secure second place.
Other notable players who made it through to Day 2 include former GUKPT Luton champion and WPT Dublin runner-up Charles Chattha (78,600), Paul Romain (39,500), the talented Russian Victor Ilyukhin (37,400), and Chi Tsang (21,100).
Plenty of big names fell by the wayside, too. James Akenhead, Ian “The Razor” Frazer, Scott O’Reilly, and Full Tilt Poker Ambassdors Sin Melin and Martins Adeniya all bought in and busted before the night was over. All five of those players should buy into Flight 2 and Flight 3 on Friday in an attempt to build a large stack for Day 2.

The second flight of this accumulator tournament starts at 2 p.m on Friday with the third and final flight taking place at 8 p.m, also on Friday. Play ends after eight 30-minute levels.
It will be interesting to see if any of the players who finished in the top 10 spots enter on any of the remaining flights in an attempt to take even more chips through to Day 2. Join us on Saturday for a recap of the action from Flight 2 and Flight 3 of the partypoker WPT National UK London Main Event.
