Jack Salter Leads as Fast-Paced UKIPT London Main Event Reaches Final Table
On Saturday, 35 poker players returned to their seats in the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Gardens to play out the penultimate day of the UKIPT London Main Event. Nine-and-a-half hours later (including breaks) all but eight of those 35 hopefuls had busted, leaving the eight finalists to bask in the glory of reaching a major live tournament’s final table.
Jack Salter is the man who has the title of chip leader going into the final table, his 3,645,000 stack containing 125,000 chips more than that of Ian Simpson, a lead of meager 2.5 big blinds. Salter is a familiar face on the UK poker circuit and has some solid results to his name. Salter’s largest score weighs in at an impressive £30,000, which was his reward for winning the £1,000 Palm Beach Big Game in November 2011. More recently, Salter finished fourth in the WPT National Dublin Main Event for €22,350.
Second-placed Simpson shot to fame in March 2013 when he won the Irish Open in Dublin in April 2013. In addition to the €265,000 first place prize, Simpson also bagged himself a fiancée after his girlfriend accepted his proposal of marriage shortly after Simpson’s victory. The former teacher from Cramlington in Northumberland knows his way around the poker table and is a serious threat to his seven opponents at the final table.
Making up the rest of the final table, but definitely not only there to make up the numbers are some familiar faces and talented individuals. The likes of Italian cash game specialist Dario Sammartino (who has been up among the chip leaders throughout the tournament), Robert Bull, the short-stacked Paul Zimber and one of the nicest people you could hope to meet both in and outside of poker, Poker Encore’s supremo Karl Mahrenholz would all be worthy and popular winners.
