Sunday Majors Round-Up: Tom Middleton Binks the PokerStars Sunday 500

Tom Middlton

One week ago, Tom Middleton won the Season 10 edition of the European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event for a whopping €942,000. Most players would have taken a couple of weeks from this crazy game, but Middleton is not like most players; he is a sicko! Last night, Middleton topped one of the toughest fields the PokerStars Sunday 500 has ever seen to add an additional $89,061.60 to his bankroll.

The Sunday Majors always attract the best tournament players in this business and that was definitely the case in this week’s Sunday 500. By the time registration closed, there were 1,032 players at the PokerStars virtual felt and the entry list read like a who’s who of the online poker world.

A number of British and Irish players progressed into the top 153 finishing place where $516,000 prize pool lay, the likes of Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis (55th), Ireland’s “G1a1u1s1s” (36th), Chris “Moorman1” Moorman (20th) and Rhys “floppinhel” Jones (14th) helping themselves to some of that money.

The nine-handed final table saw three players from the United Kingdom in contention for the $89,061.60 first place prize, although two of them only call the UK home and are not actually Brits. The first of these players, Daniel “w00ki3z.” Cates finished in seventh place, World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour title holding Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche being the other, finishing in sixth place.

Team PokerStars Pro and boyfriend of Lynn Gilmartin, Angel “angelguillen” Guillen almost went all the way, but fell in third place for a most-welcomed $49,020,00 score, leaving Russia’s “CryFishCry” and Tom “Hitthehole” Middleton to lock horns for the title.

As he did in Barcelona, Middleton turned down the chance to strike a deal and once again it worked in his favour as he brushed aside his Russian opponent to take down the Sunday 500.

Fellow pro Christopher Brammer summed things up nicely with his simple tweet:

Here’s a round-up of some of the more impressive scores from British and Irish players in this week’s Sunday Majors.
