With the World Championship Of Online Poker being in full swing over at PokerStars, where the buy-ins and prize pools are huge, it is easy to forget that the equally exciting MiniFTOPS is taking place at PokerStars’ sister site Full Tilt Poker. One man who is definitely aware of the MiniFTOPS is British pro Rhys “floppinhel” Jones, the winner of Event #4 for a not-so-mini $50,008.54.
Event #4 was the $109 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Multi-Entry event. By the time registration ended, there were 2,888 entries logged and a prize pool of $288,800 created, much more significant than the $150,000 Full Tilt Poker had guaranteed.
At the final table, reached in the early hours of Tuesday morning, were three Brits; Scott “rdcrsm” Margereson, Tom “810ofspades” Langley (better known as Mt.Spewmore) and of course, Rhys Jones. Margereson busted in sixth place for $9,819.20 while Langley crashed in third place for a much-improved $28,013.60.
Langley’s exit left Jones and Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet as the last two players standing and it was unsurprising that the two poker Goliaths struck a deal to flatten the payout structure. The flattening saw Van Fleet profit as he eventually finished second and received $46,450.66 for his efforts, over $8,600 more than was originally pencilled for second place.
The $50,008.54 that Jones won is the largest cash of his career so far, something that delighted his friend and fellow poker tournament sicko, Toby Lewis.
“I’m really pleased for Rhys, he’s a good guy,” said Lewis, “He’ll be delighted that he can now afford a custom helmet for when we go karting. Toad, sorry Rhys, never manages to find a helmet that fits him when we race, now he’ll no longer have to watch from the sidelines with a sad look on his face!”
Congratulations, Rhys. Spend the money wisely!
MiniFTOPS Event #1: $22 No Limit Hold’em Re-Entry Super Stack
Prize pool: $260,980
The opening event smashed its $200000 guarantee thanks to a massive crowd turning out for it. Here’s a list of the Brits and Irish who navigated their way through to the top 50 places, which is some achievement considering the size of the field.
|18||David “LAPPIN” Lappin||$665.50|
MiniFTOPS Event #2: $33 No Limit Hold’em Super Stack Escalator
Another bumper crowd turned out for Event #2 where 3,238 players bought in to almost double the $50,000 guarantee. Nine hours after the tournament began, one of our own took it down and scooped $17,164.67. A huge congratulations to “FrAnKeeZ1,” Event #2’s champion.
|20||Ben “SPRAGGS” Spraggons||$310.85|
Event #3: $11 + rebuys Pot Limit Omaha
Event #3 switched to four-cards for the first time in this edition of the MiniFTOPS, but unfortunately we didn’t have a ton of success. That said, “Neptunism” almost binked Event #3, falling ever so short to finish in second place, good for $5,028.83.
Event #5: $22 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Deepstack Rush
The first Rush tournament of the MiniFTOPS attracted 2,269 players and two of our players managed to get themselves into the top 0.5% of entrants. “Pisstanek” finished 15th for $226.90 while “Bazza300” burst the final table bubble and picked up $340.35. GG people.
Event #6: $22 No Limit Omaha Hi/Low Six-Max
One of the craziest games on the planet failed to yield crazy results for our players, we guess you cannot win them all. “littlenok1” was the best place of our players, finishing 15/1350 for a $210.60 score.
Event #7: $33 Limit Razz
Love it or hate it, Razz is here to stay. The game where the worst hand wins – and also the game where you seem to make great Seven Card Stud hands while playing – saw 647 exchange $33 to compete in Event #7.
Two Brits reached the eight-handed final table, “Antiher000” finishing 4th for $1,261.65 with “underreppin” busting 2nd for $2,872.68.
Event #8: $11 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Multi-Entry Deepstack
Another large-field MiniFTOPS, another set of fantastic performances by British players. Check out which of them made it into the top 50 players of the 7,709 field.
|22||Chris “TheAmblerman” Ambler||$204.16|
